About Gateway Guide

Variable Speed Limits -

MoDOT is in the process of incorporating variable speed limits along I-270 to help manage the flow of traffic along the interstate during periods of congestion. People can access more information on the program by using this link.

Improved Highway Milemarkers -

MoDOT currently has milemarkers at every 1/10th of a mile on interstate highways in St. Louis. This helps incident management and emergency response crews respond to incidents along the highway.

Travel Times -

MoDOT posts travel times on the overhead message boards along I-44, I-70, I-270 and I-255. These travel times help motorists make informed decisions about the best routes to use during the I-64 reconstruction. MoDOT is completing work to get travel times on I-55 and I-70 west of I-270.

Traffic Media Partnership -

Traffic Information (real time traffic map and video) is processed through the Transportation Management Center and is broadcast to the motoring public. Additionally, MoDOT partners with Traffic.com to provide information on traffic speeds and flow.

Transportation Management Center -

State of the art "nerve centers" in both Illinois and Missouri which serve as the hub for operations for Gateway Guide. Click here for a picture of the operation room in Town and Country, Missouri.

Traffic Cameras -

MoDOT has more than 120 cameras along interstate highways and state routes. These cameras help transportation management center people direct incident and emergency response forces to crashes or other incidents along the freeway. This information is also available on Gateway Guide.

Traffic speeds -

Drivers can now check traffic speeds along interstate routes on Gateway Guide. Traffic is rated as green (moving at least 45 mph), yellow (moving between 31 and 45 mph) and red (moving at 30 mph or slower).

511 -

Motorists can get up to the minute real-time information on traffic conditions on interstates and some major state routes by dialling 511 on their cell phones and some land lines. Additionally, drivers can sign up for free alerts, using Traffic.com by going here.
