ITS Developments in St. Louis

Over 2008, MoDOT will continue to expand its Gateway Guide coverage. Currently, contractors are working on a $5.5 million project to add overhead message boards on Interstate 64 between Kingshighway and the Poplar Street Bridge and cameras and overhead message boards on I-55 from downtown St. Louis to Barnhart.

Additionally, MoDOT continues to pursue plans to put "pivot point" information on overhead message boards. This information would give drivers more information when there are multiple paths to get to the same point. For instance, drivers might see how long it would take to travel downtown using I-70 or I-44 from a pivot point at I-270 and I-64 (during the closure of I-64.

MoDOT will also continue to improve Gateway Guide coverage across the region, as a project is underway to provide travel times and other information on I-70 west of I-270.

MoDOT is also looking at improving the Gateway Guide website.  In the past year, technicians have brought more than 80 additional cameras on line and started putting images from those cameras on Gateway Guide. The web team is also looking at methods to incorporate streaming video and other broadband improvements, and is considering improvements to Gateway Guide to improve browser compatibility.
